I learned to sew as a teenager and received my first sewing machine as a graduation present from high school. Generations of women in my family sewed their own clothes and made quilts. I always had a great respect for their work and the history it represented. My mother's participation in a quilting group piqued my interest and finally I took the plunge and began the work in 1999. Each year I learn a great deal of practical knowledge from the women in my mother's group. I love the collaborative aspects of this way of working and the oral history that is a byproduct of this age old ritual. I love hand quilting and for me it is a form of meditation, a journey. Over the years I have found that the most visually stimulating art--the art I enjoy--is the work of both the professional fiber artist and the folk art fiber artist. So I proceed as a novice in this field, and I am happy to share my work with you. It serves as another filtering process for what I have seen and what I have experienced.
